We have a yearling horse for sale that we have been working with. It’s a perfect opportunity for the kids to work on their training as they teach this yearling filly some basics.
Since we have this yearling stalled up in a barn, we are able to do some of the training within their stall. It’s important for this yearling filly to get used to being handled more. Since the weather is warming up, this filly has a winter coat that needs to be brushed and combed off. The older kids enjoy going in the stall and brushing down this filly. It gentles and calmes the horse and gets the horse very comfortable with being handled.
Even when you are in the stall, there is important training that needs to be done on a young horse. They need to learn to respect your space and never turn their rear to you.
Yesterday, this yearling filly was haltered for the first time. He taught it to give to the pressure of the halter and learn how to lead. These are important basic skills that this young filly is starting to learn.
