You saw it on t.v. or saw someone else do it and you've dreamed about trying it for yourself ever since- riding a horse.
You want to buy a horse but what would you use it for? It's best to have a plan on what you will use your horse for or it will just end up as an expensive lawn mower.
There are so many equine sports out there to choose from. This post is just to give you a sampling of equine sports to choose from and is in no way all inclusive.
1. Barrel Racing in Idaho: You can go to the National Association of Barrel Racing here or the Idaho Barrel Futurity here. Both of these websites are a great place to start if you want to do barrel racing.
2. High School Rodeo in Idaho: If you are interested in competing in High School Rodeo go to their website here. The website has information on what district you would be in as well as all the forms you will need to get started. High school rodeo includes girl and boy cow cutting, bareback, pole bending, steer wrestling, goat tying, saddle bronc, breakaway, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.
3. Idaho Horse Cutting: Go to the Idaho Cutting Horse Association to get started on learning about that fantastic sport.
4. Trail Riding in Idaho: You won't have to go far if you want to find trails to take your horse out. Check out the Idaho Parks and Recreation website for ideas on trails and camping opportunities. There are also local clubs in McCall you can get involved in that do trail rides each week in the summer.
5. Cowboy Mounted Shooting: Ever wanted to ride a horse while firing off shots? Cowboy Mounted Shooting might be for you. Go to the Northwest Mounted Shooters website for more information on how to get started.
6. Idaho Roping: Want to get involved in roping? Visit this website here to find more information on how to get started.
7. 4-H clubs: Idaho 4-H offers horse clubs that can help young people get started on their dreams to become a horseman or women. Check out the 4-H website here.
8. Gymkhanas in Idaho: Gymkhanas are horse events consisting of speed pattern racing and timed events. Jones Land & Livestock runs a local gymkhana where kids and adults alike can work on improving their horsemanship. Go to their website here to find the 2015 schedule.
