You will see horses in the pasture grooming each other by scratching each other with their teeth.  Even when a horse is on their own, they seek to groom themselves by rolling in the dirt and them shaking themselves off.

As your horses caretaker, grooming your horse is so important!

Why do you groom your horse?  There are several main reasons:

1.  It gives you a chance to check for any injuries or cuts on your horse.

2.  It helps you maintain a healthy skin and hair coat.

3.  It has training benefits that include your horse learning to stand still and patiently while we work around them.

When do you groom your horse?  It's important to groom your horse daily.  When riding, it's important to groom before and after you ride.  Before riding grooming is necessary to brush off dirt and any debri that can cause aggitation when the tack is on.  After riding, grooming will remove dirt and debris that was accumulated when riding.
